Application description
Modern adhesive systems for established processes
The upholstered furniture industry is characterized by an extremely wide variety of materials. For example, cold and molded foams, textiles, leather, wood and wood-based materials, different plastics, and many more are used. Manufacturing processes frequently involve manual operations and widely varying processing times.
Powerful dispersion adhesives — called "fast binders" due to their short curing time — are the product of choice for assembling solid wood and wood-based frames with dowel and tenon joints. These adhesives offer optimum viscosity, very good processing characteristics, and high bonding strength, helping to ensure superior and durable joints.
For years, solvent-based Jowatac® adhesives have been a reliable bonding solution for upholstered furniture and foam materials. These adhesives are continuously adapted to specific requirements and are known for their long open time, good adhesion to different substrates, and a combination of high initial strength.
The adhesives are usually applied using spray guns. The solvents act as processing aids and evaporate during the spraying process. Because they provide high initial strength and rapid bonding, solvent-based adhesives facilitate fast application and assembly procedures and thus form the basis for efficient production — especially in high-tension bonding or operations requiring short press times and low pressure.
Jowat has been developing solvent-based adhesives with a low solvent content and high solids ratio for years to address increasing environmental and safety requirements. In addition to lower emissions, solvent-based adhesives with a high solids content also provide a price advantage: lower material consumption can significantly reduce material costs for each manufactured piece.
Solvent-based adhesives with a high content of renewable raw materials have been making a significant contribution to resource-saving environmental protection for years, thus supporting the manufacture of sustainable and eco-friendly upholstered furniture.
