Modern adhesive systems for mattress manufacturing

A good mattress is a fundamental element for good sleep and recovery. Adhesives are widely used in the manufacture of all types of mattresses, whether inner-spring or foam. The adhesive must not only reliably and permanently bond the different components but also plays a direct role in terms of comfort and health.

Therefore, it must meet different quality standards according to OEKO-TEX^® 100, LGA, Blue Angel or other manufacturer-specific specifications. Furthermore, high-quality hot melt adhesives reduce noise generation in the mattress and arrange for quiet nights.

Modern adhesives are not only successful regarding the end product. Process-friendly application is another major focus in the development of high-performance adhesives. This applies to all adhesive technologies – solvent-based, thermoplastic or reactive.

Especially the use of modern reactive PUR hot melt adhesives is increasing in mattress manufacturing. This is not surprising considering the significant advantages they provide: improved heat resistance, a broad spectrum of adhesion, and high resistance to moisture and other media. The processing advantage provided by PUR technology is particularly interesting.

While mattresses bonded with CR dispersion adhesives have to dry for 6 to 24 hours before they can be further processed or packaged, mattresses bonded with PUR hot melt adhesives can be processed immediately after bonding. This is a major advantage which can significantly increase production efficiency.
