A supporting role - dedicated adhesives for glulam

Manufacturers of timber elements for load-bearing building structures face major challenges. On one hand, the production process is governed by specific standards, and the adhesives used must be approved and certified for structural construction. On the other hand, whether finger-jointing or lamination is involved, each application comes with unique requirements.

Jowat offers a portfolio of single-component, moisture-curing polyurethane prepolymer adhesives adapted specifically to different applications and products - from glued laminated timber (GLT or glulam) to cross-laminated timber (CLT), from structural solid timber to i-joists. The performance of the Jowapur^® range has been thoroughly validated in complex qualification procedures before serial production.

Due to their special composition, properties and processing parameters, these adhesives meet the demands of different applications in load-bearing glulam production. For example, several dedicated grades from the Jowapur^® range are especially suitable for fast and flexible production processes thanks to their short processing times. Other grades provide long assembly windows, allowing the production of large components and large batches.

Polyurethane adhesives offer various advantages in the production of load-bearing timber parts and deliver superior product quality compared with other systems such as condensation resins. They contain no formaldehyde and, thanks to their 100% solids content, can be applied at significantly lower spread rates. In addition, these prepolymers cure within minutes at room temperature and provide an invisible bond line due to their colorless appearance.

Jowapur^® adhesives are processed as one-component systems. Mixing, pot-life management and leftover prepared adhesive are therefore no longer an issue. Minimal foaming prevents lamellas from sticking unintentionally when stacked side by side or on top of each other and significantly reduces cleaning time. Fiber-reinforced PUR prepolymers prevent finger-joints from sliding apart after pressing during production and curing. These adhesives do not run and are extremely suitable for non-contact application. Jowat offers dedicated adhesives for load-bearing glulam production and all standard application technologies.
